Making professional contacts doesn't necessarily have to occur in person. Meeting people on facebook or twitter can lead to a very satisfying professional
networking experience.

  • On Twitter, search for the tag #followalibrarian to find librarians or library students who are active on twitter. These people often post helpful links and tips that will benefit you professionally. Having a network of librarians on twitter is also good as a support group if you have a question about libraries.
When I wen to the ALA conference in San Diego, I sat down with a resume adviser. One of the questions I posed was how to get into networks. She gave me a couple networks to look for:
CLA, SLA, AIM, Library Associates, C Berger, Axel roth and Associates.
Hope these help!
